Everyone has using WhatsApp in there mobile phone in recent time and the common word they use is WhatsApp me . WhatsApp is a mobile application available for all operating system like Android, iOS , Blackberry , Windows , Symbian s60 . Along with text message users can also send photos , videos and voice messages to other contact . The only thing required is a 2G/3G connection or a WIFI internet connection.



WhatsApp was founded in 2009 and its co-founders are Jan Koum and Brian Acton which is based in California . Both the founders are EX employees of Yahoo. Now the company is owned by Facebook. We can say that WhatsApp has basically killed the BBM market . According to wikipedia WhatsApp users around the world exchange around 10 Billion messages every day which is very impressive and it requires a lot of storage of data and big servers.

The first question that hits up everyone is how does WhatsApp earn as it is ad free.

WhatsApp Has very less employee strength. It has only 10-50 employee working with them . They have smart engineers who everyday work on developing the app .

There are basically 4 ways by which WhatsApp earn .

1) Subscription Charges 

The WhatsApp messenger application is free for the first year and then it charges around 0.99$ from its users and then second year onwards it charges 1.99$ for upcoming 3 years.

NOTE:- Till now i have never heard that any one has paid for WhatsApp . Many people have purchased the app from istore for iOS for around 0.99$ .

2) Big Database

The messages exchanged between people on whatsapp are stored and are not deleted and is stored on the server of whatsapp . this information is very useful for companies to identify the likes and dislikes of people and even there area of interest . Selling off this data can make a big amount of money.

3) Funding  

WhatsApp has got a $ 8 million funding or investment from Sequoia and other lot of investors . these investments keep WhatsApp alive.

4) Facebook

WhatsApp was recently bought by Facebook for a whooping amount of $19 Billion . Now the CEO of Facebook Mark Zukerberg is the proud owner of WhatsApp.

Note:- A lot of people say that WhatsApp earn from hidden advertisement in the app which is the biggest myth of this century .
